2,363 Pound Gourd Sets New American Record At Pumpkin Weigh-Off Contest.

Image result for 2,363 Pound Gourd Sets New American Record At Pumpkin Weigh-Off Contest
October is pumpkin month in the US. For most people, this means devouring the various pumpkin-filled treats or visiting pumpkin patches to pick out the perfect gourd to carve for Halloween. However, for some, it means the chance to showcase their giant produce at pumpkin weigh-offs.Though there are numerous such contests held across the country, the “Super Bowl” takes place annually at Half Moon Bay, CA, aka “The World Pumpkin Capital.”The contest, which recently celebrated its 44th year, has always been extremely popular with master pumpkin growers. However, since 2015, it has become even more so, because contestants now have the potential to take home as much as $30,000 in prize money. To claim the “World Record Prize,” competitors have to submit a “World Record Pumpkin.”This year, that meant one heavier than the gargantuan 2,624-pound pumpkin, which broke the world record at the Giant Pumpkin European Championship in 2016. If the winning entry was unable to surpass the record, the owner would still receive a generous $7 per pound. This year’s competition, which took place on October 9,attracted over 20 beautiful pumpkins from across the country. The owners,as well as thousands of spectators, watched with bated breath as the fruits were carefully picked up by forklifts and placed on the digital weighing scale. While nine of the entries came in at over 1,100 pounds each, they were no match for seven-time winner Joel Holland’s massive 2,363-pound masterpiece.Though the retired firefighter from Sumner, WA did not break the world record, he did set a new American record with his giant gourd, which is also the second heaviest pumpkin ever grown! Holland was handsomely rewarded for his efforts, with Half Moon Bay’s coveted “Mel Mello Sr. Grand Champion Green Jacket” and a cash prize of $16,541 ($7 per pound).

Mom sues after bi-racial daughter's hair shaved without permission.

Seven-year-old Tru Robinson had natural brown ringlets that swept the middle of her back. At daycare, she’d wear them up in pigtails until staff decided to shave them off entirely. The girl’s mother, Denise Robinson, says carers at Little Heroes Group Home, Conn.,“violated” her daughter by shearing her locks without parental consent. Worse yet, Robinson claims, the staff at the school told the child her hair would “grow back straight.”The distraught mom opened up about the incident on Facebook.“Tru was assaulted yesterday at school and anyone who knows me knows that I never claim racism. But why was my daughter’s head shaved?”“There are three other girls in her class, two white girls, one black, none of these girls got scaled. Why Tru??” she wrote.Ik“My child is mixed race and her hair WAS FULL and curly… She DID NOT AND I REPEAT [NOT] HAVE HEAD LICE OR BUGS!! SO WHY DID THIS HAPPEN?”
The behavioural school, where Tru stays part-time, said the haircut was necessary for hygienic reasons.“The program employs a diverse staff that is attentive to the needs of all children. Decisions regarding grooming are based on a variety of factors, including hygiene,” it stated.“A review of the circumstances is underway to determine what occurred and, if necessary, appropriate action will be taken.”But Robinson strongly disagrees, arguing that she should have at least received a phone call to ask her permission.“There was no hygienic reason for them to shave my child’s head. There were no head lice, there were no bed bugs. There was no what I refer to as rasta locks going on.Her hair was two ponytails on the side on Saturday and it was braided in the ponytails and there was nothing wrong.”Robinson is taking legal action against the children’s home and plans move her daughter out of the facility.I was told a clinician gave permission to Tru to have this haircut done,” she said.I am very upset. And I’m not going to stop being upset because I feel like my child was assaulted and violated.”The family’s lawyer, Richard Kendall, said it was “appalling” that Tru was told her hair would grow back straight after it was shaved off.Officials at Little Heroes Group Home have said privacy laws prevent them from further commenting but confirmed a review was being conducted.“For them to do this, it’s very upsetting, not just to me but to her.

Beloved Hollywood hunk Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson doesn’t just look good he can also make time to send love and support to his fans. Johnson received an email from a woman earlier this week asking the former WWE star to say some nice things about her 76-year-old grandmother Judy Rosenberg. Judy, who is a mother of 5 and grandmother of 17, is currently in hospice care for her stage four pancreatic cancer. But she is not alone in the hospital bed she brought her life-sized cardboard cutout of the Rock to keep her company. Since Rosenberg is (obviously) a huge fan of Johnson, her daughter wrote an email to the actor asking if he could call her and blow her some air kisses. Johnson then got on Instagram and made a video shoutout for the sweet senior.“Stay strong Judy” says the Moana star. “We’re all sending you and your family love and light during this time and I’m an extremely grateful man this email reached my eyes. This kind of stuff will always be the best part of fame.”

Woman Changes Homeless Man’s Life After He Stood on Same Street Corner for 3 Years.

Victor Hubbard had been standing on the same street corner waiting for his mother to return for the last three years that is until Ginger Jones Sprouse finally decided to step in and lend a hand.Victor, who is a mentally ill 38-year-old homeless man, was dropped off at the corner by his mother and told to wait for her to return. Three years later, he was still waiting for his mother to return.“He stands and looks, taps the pole, squints, dances, waves and sometimes just stares,” wrote Ginger in December. “He is a sweet, gentleman that happens to be mentally ill. If you have ever heard the term ‘falling through the cracks’ he is the definition.”Ginger drove by Victor’s street corner in Clear Lake, Texas four different times a day on her way to work at the Art of the Meal. As winter approached, Ginger started to worry about how Victor would handle the cold. Whenever her lunch break would roll around, she would visit her homeless neighbour and chat about their lives. The two eventually struck up a friendship and Ginger invited her new acquaintance to stay at her place whenever the weather got too bad. As a way of drawing awareness to his situation, she created a Facebook page titled “This is Victor”.“I drive by Victor’s corner at least 4 times a day. I listen to people talking around town and keep hearing ‘someone needs to do something about that guy’.” Ginger wrote on the crowdfunding page. “So, I will be the organizer and I hope that we as a community can be ‘someone’ together.”Since they became close, Ms Sprouse has brought Victor into several mental health clinics, doctors appointments, gotten him a job at her restaurant, and helped him off the street. A GoFundMe page for Victor’s living costs has raised $17,500 in just two months. The Facebook page has given regular updates on Victor’s life  and he has reportedly been doing fabulously.“Tonight Victor laughed. I mean really laughed. The kind where you fall back on the couch kind of laugh. Where you have tears streaming down your face and you can’t catch your breath. It wasn’t really even that funny. But as he laughed I could almost see the tension leave his body, the years of stress and worry and the anxiety that was clinging to him slowly melting away,” wrote Ginger.“I wondered when was the last time he laughed that way? And how sad and lost he was on the corner. And how all of our hearts hurt to see him that way. And how thankful we can be that now he’s not just smiling, but laughing. A deep belly laughs, the kind that comes from a joyful heart. And now we can smile too.”

Indian boy born with 8 limbs.

Karam now has the same number of limbs as any other child
Karam Sarmed, from Baghdad, in Iraq, was admitted to Jaypee Hospital, in Noida, northern India, with Polymelia disease. Polymelia is a birth defect which means that Karam was born with more than the normal number of limbs. Karam had four extra limbs  - two hands and two legs. However, one limb was much shorter than a usually sized leg and the other one was divided into two separate limbs. In addition, both a leg and a hand were protruding from Karam's stomach. While the hospital in Iraq was unable to perform the operation, the boy’s father Dr Sarmed Ahmed, 28, an emergency doctor, had heard of previous successful surgeries done in India. As a result, he and his wife Gulfran Ali, 28, decided to fly Karam to India when he was just 17 days old, hoping for a miracle. He said: "He’s my first child and it was heartbreaking to see his condition. We were devastated."We went to several doctors and hospitals in my country, but due to a lack of facilities, they refused to do surgery. They said they cannot operate. Dr Abhishek, a consultant in the paediatrics department, at Jaypee Hospital, said: "When the baby was brought to the hospital, his limbs and intestines were distorted, and he only had one kidney."A team of doctors from multiple departments discussed his condition and we mutually agreed to correct the limbs and distorted intestines in three stages."Dr Gaurav Rathore, a senior consultant, from the orthopaedics department, at Jaypee Hospital, said: "In the first stage, Karam’s clubfeet were treated and the two limbs which were protruding out of his stomach were removed."After surgery, Karam went back to Iraq and we were in contact with the parents by phone and email for important advice.""Recently, we performed the third stage of the surgery in which we removed the other two limbs. Like any other normal kid, Karam now has two legs."However, the boy's left leg was not developed completely, meaning that doctors transplanted the muscles of the removed limbs into it. Along with this, Karam’s crooked back was also treated with pelvic osteotomy surgery.
Dr Abhishek and Dr Gaurav Rathore led the complex surgery at the hospital in India
Karam also had one normal testicle on the right side but on the left side, he had two testicles. During surgery, one testicle was removed and the other was corrected. The family will remain in hospital until Karam is strong enough to travel back to Iraq.
The family are now looking forward to going home following Karam's surgery
Dr Sarmed added: "My son is alright now. His condition is really stable."I’m glad to say he’s responded well to treatment. We’re looking forward to going home now."The family's story comes as a boy is desperate for surgery after his head has swollen to twice its normal size.

This is a great way to celebrate diversity in the fashion world.“We have a lot of talented models on our books and we work with a lot of models nationally.
The River Island job is the 11-year-old's first modelling assignment

Mothers organize photoshoots for their little children, hope they'll marry each other in future
Growing up, most people had that one friend they spent almost all their time with, hanging out together and sharing playdates and basically enjoying each moment spent in the person's company.Often times, the children themselves or their relatives tease them by calling them 'husband and wife', due to the fact that where you see one child, the other is not far from the scene. Two mothers decided to take their children's closeness to another level by organising a 'couple photoshoot' for them because they looked good together also to preserve their memory for the future.According to, the women who are both photographers told their children they were getting married and allowed them to play 'dress up'.5-year-old Sullivan and 3-year-old Ella reportedly got themselves camera-ready for their shoot. Ella's mother, Breana Marie, said: We told them they were getting married and found a little baby-sized ring box.I told her she got to dress like a princess for her wedding.I braided her hair and then they saw each other and they said, ‘We’re getting married today!’ They did pretty much everything themselves, then they’d look at each other and they would giggle.” Sullivan's mother, Bria, had worked with Breana a couple of times before and knew their children would get along as friends. Breana had this to say about the children's future: “I would die of happiness if they got married in the future.

Rescuers Race to Save Animals From Bali Volcano.

Volunteers are risking their lives to save tens of thousands of animals left at the mercy of a rumbling volcano on the tourist island of Bali, making perilous trips into the red zone to relocate them. Mount Agung, about 75 kilometres (47 miles) from the resort hub of Kuta, has been shaking since August, causing some 144,000 people to evacuate their homes over the past week as experts warn an eruption could be imminent. As evacuees have streamed into temporary shelters or moved in with relatives, animals including wild monkeys as well as dogs and farm animals such as pigs, chickens and cows have been left in the danger zone close to the volcano that is most at risk of cascading ash, rocks and hot gas.I'm really worried because all of us that work together to rescue the animals don't know when the eruption will be," Vio Verandhini, from Jakarta Animal Aid Network, told AFP."Earthquakes happen every day, maybe every hour."There are hundreds of tremors each day triggered by the volcano, a handful of which are magnitude 2-3 and are strong enough to rattle windows and rock furniture.Verandhini's organisation and several others have formed a 12-person emergency response unit that has been making dangerous trips into the red zone, which extends between nine and 12 kilometres from the mountain's summit.

The animals are relocated to shelters where they are fed and cared for and the owners are encouraged to visit as often as possible to ensure their upkeep. The Indonesian Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation said Friday that remote satellite sensing had picked up new steam emissions and thermal areas within the crater. White steam clouds above the summit have been observed with greater frequency over the past three days, increasing the probability of an eruption, the centre said. The slopes of Mount Agung are a hub for cattle farming in the region, providing an important source of income for local communities. Around 10,000 cows have been shifted so far in an evacuation aided by the government, Indonesia's disaster mitigation agency said, but there are 20,000 more to relocate. Another evacuee, Nyoman Suwarta, tearfully recounted how he was separated from his two pet zebra doves amid the frantic rush to flee the volcano.

When a little girl was scared of finding monsters in her new home, she knew just who to call: the local police.4-year-old Sidney Fahrenbruch had just moved into a house in Longmont,Colorado two weeks ago when she started hearing spooky noises from around the building. As a means of ensuring that her house was safe, she then called Officer David Bonday and asked if he could come over and help make sure that there weren’t monsters hiding under the furniture. She asked Bonday to be her police partner specifically after meeting him at a community fundraiser a month earlier.Considering that Fahrenbruch is aspiring to be a police officer when she grows up, it is not surprising that she opted to call the boys in blue, rather than the Ghostbusters. It was probably one of the cutest things I’ve ever been involved with as a police officer,” Officer Bonday said.

Woman Escapes Wildfires On Bike Carrying Her 70-Pound Pit Bull

Natasha Wallace will go through hell and high water or in this case, wildfires  in order to rescue her 4year-old pit bull, Bentley. The Santa Rosa Junior College student had just finished up studying for school across town from her house last Monday when she started driving home and saw that there was a wildfire heading straight for her house where Bentley was waiting for her.Instead of fleeing the scene, Wallace sped home and picked up the Pittie in her car. As she tried to leave, however, traffic was moving too slowly for them to safely evacuate.Wallace then went back to her house and picked up her bike and a duffel bag.[The fire] was coming faster than I could leave in traffic, so I went back and got my bike,” Wallace told WTVR. “So I grabbed my dog and I told him, ‘Hey man, this is serious, you need to just sit in the bag.’ And he, he hopped right in.”With the 70-pound pit bull curled up in his makeshift sidecar, Wallace then biked for several miles until a man named Paul Johnson spotted the college student and pulled his truck over on the side of the road to offer them a ride to safety.Since Wallace lost everything in the fire, she has since started a GoFundMe page to help her get back on her feet. Thanks to the kindness of strangers, the campaign has already raised $18,000.“I kept thinking I could get my life back to normal alone because asking for help isn’t easy but without the proper insurance that is seemingly difficult,” says Wallace. “Finding a place to live with a bigger dog isn’t cheap but that’s the top priority next to new underwear and soccer cleats.”
