A newborn baby was discovered in a shopping bag after she was dumped on the side of the road in freezing conditions. Mukesh Kumar Verma spotted the "twitching" bag on the pavement, as he was on his way to collect his son in Lucknow, northern India. Mr Verma was horrified to find the baby girl shivering, and struggling to breathe. He immediately called the police, who took the baby to Lohia Hospital. Docs believe the little girl, is as young as two days old and weighed in at 5 pounds 11 ounces. Medical superintendent M.L. Bhargava said the baby remains in intensive care. Ajit Kushwaha, the coordinator for ChildLine in the city of Lucknow, told local media: "The Child Welfare Committee has ordered the girl to be handed over to a state welfare home located at Pragnnarayan Road."It was not clear whether authorities were hoping to trace the baby's parents.
