Six adorable squirrels were rescued in Nebraska on Monday after a passerby found them with their tails tangled together. Craig Luttman heard screeching outside his Nebraska home and went to investigate. He couldn't believe his eyes when he saw the eight-week-old squirrels on a pine tree with their tails tangled. It was like a tug of war,' he said. 'All we're going in different directions,' he told the Omaha World-Herald. Luttman immediately reported the incident and the Nebraska Humane Society came to the rescue. The organization wrote on Facebook that they 'contained the little critters and took them to Nebraska Wildlife Rehab, Inc,' where the squirrels were untangled. Rescuers then gave the squirrels anaesthesia, covered them with a towel to help keep them calm and untangled the tails using natural oils. The process took about an hour. Laura Stastny, executive director of Nebraska Wildlife Rehab, told the World-Herald that the squirrels became tangled because of tree sap. The squirrels are now being watched by wildlife experts. Some of the baby squirrels will need surgery to remove parts of their tails that were damaged when tangled. According to the humane society, the squirrels will be released back into the wild within a few weeks. And as unusual as it sounds, this isn't the first case the organization has dealt with. 'There have had a couple sightings/cases of this crazy phenomenon!' the humane society wrote on Facebook. Last year, the same phenomenon happened in Maine, where a man discovered four squirrels stuck together. The squirrels were untangled and released back into the wild.
