Met Eireann confirms Wednesday was the hottest of the year so far .

Ireland basked in the hottest day of the year so far as a sweltering heatwave sweeps the country. Met Eireann has confirmed a sizzling 29.3C was recorded at Shannon Airport today. This beats all other temperatures recorded so far this year. Coming a close second was Oak Park at 28.7C and Athenry at 28.2C. Gurteen recorded a hot 27.8C and Mullingar 27.5C. With forecasters predicting the heatwave will peak on Thursday and Friday, some think Ireland could smash the record 33.3C clocked at Kilkenny Castle way back in 1887. Forecaster John Eagleton said: “Thursday and Friday will be the peak, it’s hard to say which day, it could be Friday, it’s six of one, half a dozen of another. But certainly, both days will be very hot.”
Thermometers will soar to over 30C as this mega heatwave peaks over the next two days. Thermometers will soar to over 30C as this mega heatwave peaks over the next two days.
