Footage of the animal torture in southern China was spread online and now animal activists are demanding the farmer be punished. The man said he caught the squirrel stealing corn from his table and carried out the torture as punishment on his farm in Guizhou, China. The clip was first uploaded on May 31 and has been shared thousands of times since. In Chinese, the man says: ‘Why are you stealing from me? Go steal my cousin’s. ‘We don’t have enough corn for ourselves. Now you want some too?’ The squirrel attempts to break free but fails and it is unclear if the animal survived the ordeal. Keith Guo, press officer at PETA Asia, said: ‘This is yet another reason why China needs an animal-protection law. ‘Such abuse is why PETA is on the ground to raise awareness of all animal-welfare issues.
