Ugandan Oxford student marries herself out of pressure from parents.

A 32-year-old Ugandan lady recently married herself in a mock wedding ceremony. This is coming after continuous pressure from her family to settle with a good man. The event occurred on her 32nd birthday in the Kampala, the capital of Uganda on her visit home Identified as Lulu Jemimah, the 32-year-old student of Oxford University appears left many people amusingly shocked after she married herself in a mock wedding ceremony due to continuous pressure from her family to settle down. According to the story, Lulu considers marriage the last thing on her mind as she studies a masters in creative writing at Oxford, UK. So in order to get her parents off her back, she decided to throw the surprise mock wedding. On her visit to Uganda for her birthday in August, Lulu was planning a "low key" birthday celebration, until friends convinced her otherwise. However her joke about showing up in a wedding dress Tweeting photos from the event, she wrote: "Officially married. There was no groom. One bride, one goal. Hopefully, I can now focus on the #MStCreativeWritingOxford #Masters @UniofOxford".Lulu said her wedding cost her just £2 which was the fare for her taxi to the venue, and she got other things free of charge from friends. Basically, she spent N950 for her 'wedding'.‘I have a strong passion in life and I am committed to achieving my goals at becoming an academic. But all my family wanted to ask me was when I planned to get married which is very important back in Uganda followed by when I would be having children and starting a family. My father wrote my wedding speech when I turned 16. Every birthday my mother prayed for me and in recent years this has included a plea for a good husband. But I just didn’t want to think about walking up the aisle. It’s not the thing which keeps me up at night. The new bride, through the help of some of her friends, celebrated her birthday and her ‘self’ wedding at the same time. One of my closest friends Karin reminded me that I had a lot to celebrate this year like getting into Oxford and I joked that I would show up in a wedding dress."Although, her parents were absent on her big day, as they were ‘a bit confused’ about her decision to get married to herself. She said: ‘When we talked the next day she was a bit confused and slightly hurt, but explained that by even wearing a wedding dress it proved I was ready for marriage. My father still maintains that he doesn’t know what to say." The wedding wasn't legally binding as you can't marry yourself but Lulu seems to have fulfilled that aspect of her life and is now focused on her studies.
