Disney Is Officially Stopping Marvel Movies On Netflix.

We all knew the day was coming when Disney would end its long-running partnership with the streaming giant, Netflix. Bad news, everyone that day is now. As the House of Mouse gears up for the release of its own streaming service, Disney Plus, the conglomerate has announced that forthcoming superhero romp Captain Marvel is not available to Netflix subscribers nor will any other of its 2019 releases. Boooooo.According to Screen Rant, this will apparently lose the House of Mouse a whopping $150 million (£116m) in operating income - although no doubt the studio giant will make the money up in other ways, not least from its own streaming launch, expected sometime later this year. Speaking during an investor's conference earlier this week, Disney CEO Bob Iger confirmed the upcoming Marvel movie won't be headed to a Netflix near you, stating: "What we're basically trying to do here is invest in our future."He added that the moves the company has made are 'all designed so that long-term this business will become an important part of Disney's bottom line'.So while cutting ties with Netflix is going to cost a fair sum, the company is expected to make miles more with the launch of Disney Plus."It's almost the equivalent of deploying capital to build out our theme parks," Iger said. "This is a bet on the future of this business."Up until this point, the pair has enjoyed a long-running relationship, with Netflix airing everything from TV shows such as Luke Cage and Jessica Jones to blockbuster hits like Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War. If you're disappointed you won't be granted the same service with Captain Marvel, fret not, as you'll still be able to catch the female-fronted flick when it hits cinemas on 6 March 2019. The movie sees Brie Larson kick butt in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Carol Danvers (aka Captain Marvel), where she'll be joined by Samuel L Jackson, Jude Law, Gemma Chan and Lee Pace.
It's going to be quite something if we're to believe Kevin Feige's revelation about the film. According to the Marvel Studios president, Captain Marvel is the most powerful character they've introduced so far. He said: "It's very important to us that all of our heroes do not become silhouette-perfect cutout icons. All of the Marvel characters have flaws to them, all of them have deep humanity to them."With Captain Marvel, she is as powerful a character as we've ever put in a movie. Her powers are off the charts, and when she's introduced, she will be by far the strongest character we've ever had. It's important, then, to counterbalance that with someone who feels real."She needs to have a humanity to tap into, and Brie can do that."
