Woman wakes up from coma after 27 years following bus crash

Munira Abdulla fell into the coma when she was involved in a bus crash in the United Arab Emirates in 1991.
She had been bringing her son, four-year-old Omar, to school when the accident occurred. She was 32-years-old at the time. Abdulla's injuries were so severe and her brain so damaged that doctors presumed that she would never wake up. However, she recently regained consciousness in a hospital in Germany speaking to UAE newspaper The National, Omar who is now 32-years-old said that his mother has been speaking and asking questions since she woke up. She has also recited verses from the Quran."I never gave up on her because I always had a feeling that one day she will wake up," he said. Dr Ahmad Ryll, the neurologist at Schoen Clinic near Munich, said that Abdulla is becoming more responsive each day and that she is now able to communicate with her family "in a very reasonable manner.""For years I have dreamt of this moment, and my name was the first word she said," he said. Abdulla had been receiving treatment in various hospitals around the world since the accident after the crown prince gave her family enough money to be transferred. She is now receiving further treatment in Abu Dhabi.
