Man dies after 'fight' on busy street in city centre.

Police have launched a murder investigation after a man died following an early-morning assault in a city centre.
Officers were called to the scene in Cardiff shortly before 5am on Sunday following reports of an assault. The man, who has not yet been formally identified, was located with injuries and was pronounced dead. Police sealed off the area in the city centre and a helicopter was hovering over the scene. Forensics officers carried out an investigation at the scene, placing yellow evidence markers on the floor which was covered in rubbish. Local resident Vicky Thomas, 36, said some of her friends witnessed the incident, which happened "so quickly", and saw the man fall to the floor. She said: “A couple of my friends were sleeping on the street last night. I used to be homeless, but I’ve been housed."They saw it. They saw the man fall to the floor.
"They said it happened so quickly."There was blood on the street."This morning I’ve seen the forensics team putting things in bags. It’s getting dangerous on the streets.”Detectives have appealed for witnesses or anyone with information about the alleged murder to come forward.
A South Wales Police spokesperson said: "A murder investigation has been launched following the death of a man in Cardiff city centre during the early hours of this morning."Officers were called at approximately 4.50am today (Sunday 21st July) to St Mary Street following reports of an assault."Significant police enquiries are on-going in the area, the deceased man has not yet been formally identified."A number of officers and the police helicopter continue to be in the area and a number of cordons remain in place while investigations continue."We appreciate the local community’s continued support and urge anyone with information about the incident to contact us via 101 or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, quoting occurrence 1900265784."
