Newlyweds feed 280 guests with food 'destined for the bin'.

A waste-conscious couple served their 280 wedding guests to a lavish banquet with food that was destined for the bin.Kayley and Joe Tilston were determined to serve up an amazing spread but also wanted to recycle and reuse as much as possible throughout their wedding day. They served up sea bream, sea bass, ox, pork ribs, and chicken, and they were even able to offer vegan and gluten-free options too. Their guests were only let into the secret when the bride and groom made the announcement after they tucked in. They added that many were shocked and gasped while others said it was incredible and went back for seconds.
Speaking about her wedding at Victoria Hall in Saltaire, Kayley, 34, said she and her new husband try to avoid waste wherever possible."We will always be creative about what we can cook from leftovers to avoid throwing them away, so the idea really combined our morals with the logistics of catering for so many people."The average wedding breakfast can cost up to £25 per person or more, so with nearly 300 mouths to feed it made sense."
The couple engaged in the services of The Real Junk Food Project which runs "pay what you like" cafes that also sell waste food to stop it from going to landfills. The food was re-imagined as a selection of canapes and a festival-style buffet served up in recycled cardboard packaging. The Tilstons paid around £5 ahead to feed their guests, saving them hundreds.
