Coronavirus LIVE updates: Boris Johnson addresses nation as Britain goes into lockdown

Using language Britain will not have heard since the Second World War, Prime Minister Boris Johnson placed the UK on lockdown and urged us all to 'stay at home' in this 'moment of national emergency'.The UK has been placed on lockdown tonight as the Prime Minister made an extraordinary address to the nation. In language unheard since the time of war, Boris Johnson spoke of a nation of Brits "enlisted" in the battle against coronavirus.
All non-essential stores are to close, Brits who leave their homes without a valid reason could be fined and gatherings of more than two people in public are banned as part of sweeping measures. This comes after the UK death toll from coronavirus hit 335. This afternoon 46 new deaths in the last 24 hours in England were announced by NHS England. The Government released a full list of high-risk people who should stay at home for the next 12 weeks to protect themselves. It's perfect if you're self-isolating - or have an elderly family member or friend who can't get out of the house. Calls for the lockdown increased after Brits packed into beaches, pubs and parks on the weekend in spite of social distancing advice. And a doctor has warned that people in their 30s are fighting for their life after contracting coronavirus.
