Camp United Nations for Girls NYC 2017 featuring a Day at UN Headquarters by girls in politics initiative.

The Girls in Politics Initiative (“GIP”) is an international civic education program created and administered by the Political Institute for Women.
Our GIP programs introduce girls ages 8 to 17 to politics, policy, the work of the United States Congress, parliamentary governments and the work of the United Nations. We host GIP programs in the United States, Canada, Mexico and the United Kingdom. Educational, social and political organizations may also book a private and/or customized GIP program. Celebrate UN Day of the Girls with us this year! Our Camp United Nations for Girls New York City 2017 is a two-day program that includes the activities outlined below.
Day 1-United Nations Headquarters
UN Day of the Girl Observation
Viewing or UN Exhibits including When I Grow Up photo exhibit
Lunch
United Nations Tour
United Nations Private Briefing
Meetings with on-site NGO
Day 2 - Conference Center
The day begins with an in-depth lesson on the history of the United Nations and its purpose. This is followed by an explanation of the structure, leadership and the rules of procedure of the United Nations starting with the General Assembly and subsidiary organs. Participants learn about the specific work undertaken in the United Nations’ boards, commissions, committees, councils and panels and working groups. Prior to convening the General Assembly, each participant will be assigned a country and guided through researching her country then writing a position paper. When the General Assembly convenes delegates will give speeches, negotiate with other delegates, caucus and propose resolutions along with amendments before finally voting. All activities will be guided by a camp counsellor in small working groups of delegates.

Girl Scouts participating in Camp United Nations for Girls New York City will earn a Global Action Award upon completion of the program. The Delegate fee is $395. The delegate fee covers a GIP logo t-shirt, all program materials and meals. The delegate fee is non-refundable unless the organizer cancels the program.
