A Milwaukee bus driver came to the aid of a 2-year-old girl she found running down a busy street wearing nothing but a T-shirt and underwear and comforted her with puppy photos, the city’s transit authority said. Diana Serrano was driving along Lapham Boulevard near I-43 just after 6 a.m. Aug. 4 when she suddenly spotted the unaccompanied tot, the Milwaukee County Transit System said in a news release. Another passing driver stopped at the same time, picked up the crying toddler and handed her to Serrano.“He told me he had to get to work and couldn’t wait around,” Serrano said in the release. Serrano swept the tot into her arms and carried her onto the bus, where she notified dispatch and asked them to contact police, the transit authority said. Meanwhile, Serrano chatted with the little girl and showed her photos of puppies on her cellphone, photos show.“One of my daughters recently got a cute puppy and I knew to show the girl some pictures would keep her mind off of the scary situation,” Serrano said. About 10 minutes later, the toddler’s mother emerged, searching for her daughter. She boarded the bus and picked up the girl who investigators say sneaked out of the house while everyone was asleep. The mother said she was grateful that Serrano was on hand to keep her daughter safe, according to the release. This was the eighth lost or missing child whom Milwaukee transit drivers have found in less than two years, the transit authority said.
