Google Doodle celebrates search engine's anniversary.

It’s the go-to search engine for many people, and amazingly, Google is now 20 years old. On this day in 1998, two students at Stanford University launched the new search engine, with the aim of making the world’s information accessible to all. Amazingly, Google Search is now available in more than 150 languages and over 190 countries. To celebrate the landmark, Google has created a special Google Doodle, which explores the most popular searches over the last two decades.

The Google story begins in 1995 at Stanford University when a student called Sergey Brin showed round a prospective student, called Larry Page. In 1996, the two struck a partnership and built a search engine that used links to determine the importance of individual pages on the World Wide Web. However, it wasn’t until 1998 that Google Inc was officially born, after Brin and Page received a check for $100,000 from Andy Bechtolsheim. Google was founded by Sergey Brin and Larry Page. Brin is now the president of Google’s parent company, Alphabet Inc, and as of June 2018. is the 10th richest person in the world. Meanwhile, Larry Page is now the Chief Executive of Alphabet Inc, and is the ninth richest person in the world.
