Be very wary. Gardaí have issued an alert for the public to be vigilant of fake €50 banknotes. The notes were first spotted in Mayo, but money travels fast and could well be making their way around Ireland at the moment. Owners of late-night businesses have been warned to be extra cautious of when accepting notes from customers. According to The Connacht Telegraph, Garda Michael Toland, community Garda liaison officer of Castlebar said that the notes are of a sophisticated nature and it is very difficult to tell the difference between a real one and a fake one. He said: "The difference between these and the real €50 notes is that there are dots around the 5 and 0 of the fake version. Anybody coming across them should not accept them and contact their local garda station immediately."Basically, the star in the middle of the 0 is brown in the fake one.
