Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be looking to make it nine wins out of nine as caretaker manager when his Manchester United side takes on Burnley.
The Red Devils’ fantastic run of form has seen them move to within three points of the fourth spot, and they will be looking to put further pressure on fellow challengers Chelsea and Arsenal. Burnley, meanwhile, is unbeaten in the league since Boxing Day, a run which has seen them climb out of the relegation spots and into 16th place. Chris Smalling could return for United, with the defender back in contention following a foot problem. Marcos Rojo and Marouane Fellaini are still out. Robbie Brady could be missing for Burnley having gone off during their FA Cup loss against Manchester City with a groin injury. Johann Berg Gudmundsson and Phil Bardsley also face late fitness tests.
David De Gea has praised team-mates Phil Jones and Victor Lindelof for their recent Manchester United performances. The defensive duo has started five of the eight games Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has taken charge of and won. It’s been an impressive start by the Norwegian, who has restored attacking football to the club and reinvigorated their top-four challenge. And the Spaniard believes the firm of Jones and Lindelof has been crucial for their recent success.“I think the form of Jones and Lindelof is absolutely vital for the team,” De Gea told ManUtd.com.“They’ve enjoyed some excellent form and been very, very good. I think as they continue to play together they get to know each other more and each other’s style of play even more.“All the defenders have been doing well. I think when the defence plays well it gives a lot of confidence throughout the team and it’s not just that we’re conceding fewer goals, I think we’re giving away fewer chances as well, so long may it continue.”
