People are giving the humble potato a dramatic makeover .

We all love the humble potato, whether it's mashed, roasted or in chip form. But you probably haven't considered giving the sturdy vegetable a makeover with actual cosmetics because why would you? Well, beauty bloggers around the world have put their skills to work on the challenge of styling the potato to make it look glamorous, and they actually look incredible albeit rather odd. Footage on Instagram shows potatoes having undergone a major revamp, with flawless eye makeup and perfectly contoured and blended 'faces'.The trend has since gone viral, after hundreds of people have posted videos under the #potatomakeup hashtag, with videos getting hundreds of thousands of views. So how did the trend start? It grew in popularity when Russian Youtuber Elona Balasyan posted a potato make-up tutorial last year - inspiring makeup artists to follow suit. Professional make-up artist Caitlin Rubra, 21, from Hertfordshire shared insight with BBC Three about why the potato has been chosen for this task: "I think it is because potatoes are slightly more dry so it will absorb make-up better, also they're fairly smooth." Makes sense. Instagrammers, Danieli, Yelena and Maya who run a joint account called professional. arts, created a more natural look for their potatoes saw one post about potato make-up,' they told BBC Three.
