Woman has kept a Creme Egg for nearly 50 years

After the death of her first husband in 1971, Jean Peters was devastated.
But incredibly, two years later she met a wonderful man named Dan Clark. And on their first date in 1973, he presented her with something rather sweet a Cadbury's Creme Egg. This kind gesture set in motion a whirlwind romance and the following year the pair were married. Jean decided not to eat the Creme Egg her husband-to-be gave her and never once removed the foil wrapper.
She kept it over the years and treasured it even after Dan died in 1981, leaving her widowed in her 50s. The item became somewhat of a family heirloom and in 2010, when Jean passed away aged 94, her relatives decided to continue preserving the chocolate egg. Jean's granddaughter Ainslie Peters, 48, is currently in possession of the sweet treat, and she claims it was the only item belonging to her late grandmother that she wanted to keep despite the fact that she doesn't actually like Creme Eggs. To this day, 46 later, Ainslie has the sweet on display in her home in Kirkcaldy, Fife.
She said: "The egg is just something I remember from all of my childhood visits to see my gran in Glasgow, she kept it in a glass cabinet with her ornaments."I and my three sisters did ask her about it but she would just laugh it off. Eventually, she told us the story, that Dan had given it to her on their first date."The egg now has pride of place in Ainslie's own glass cabinet, along with an order of service from her dad's funeral. She continued: "I'm quite a sentimental person, I keep stuff just because someone has given it to me.
