A football fan has shared his horror injuries after claiming he was slashed in the face with a Stanley knife after an away game. Aston Villa supporter Martin Hollinshead claims he was attacked by a fellow fan outside the derelict Bagot Arms pub building in Erdington, Birmingham. Police are investigating his claims he was attacked after stepping off a supporters' coach, which arrived back in Birmingham late last nightMartin had been at Villa's match away at Nottingham Forest before the alleged attack,.He said: "We'd just pulled up back from the Nottingham Forest game."I had a verbal argument with another fan on the coach over getting off and, as we had got off, he just went for me."For me, it was probably a Stanley knife and it cut all my face open. Blood was gushing out, yeah.
"He went to use the tool again from out of his pocket but there were about seven or eight witnesses."I was on my own and was just waiting to get a taxi home."It's just so shameful how a fellow fan can do this. It's shamed our club."
The 42-year-old, from Castle Bromwich, uploaded a graphic image of the nasty gash across his cheek, which has been widely circulated over social media. He required "40 or more stitches" and was immediately rushed to hospital after being knifed.
A spokesman for West Midlands Police said the force is investigating reports of an assault on Eachelhurst Road, Sutton Coldfield in the early hours of this morning."It is believed a man was attacked following an earlier argument on a coach. He suffered serious injuries to his face and received hospital treatment. He is now recovering at home."West Midlands Ambulance also confirmed paramedics rushed to the scene outside the Bagot Arms shortly after midnight, treated an injured man and took him to hospital.
