Some chickens in France have seemingly had quite enough of foxes rocking up whenever they fancy and eating everyone in sight, so have decided to form a gang and turn the tables.
The young fox had got into the coop via an automatic hatch, which closed behind it immediately. Pascal Daniel, head of farming at the school, told AFP: "There was a herd instinct and they attacked him with their beaks."Describing the state of the body he added: "It had blown to its neck, blows from beaks."Pretty brutal. There are around 6,000 free chickens at the five-acre site, and most of the hens spend their days outside before going into the coops at night. Daniel told Ouest France: "A whole mass of hens can arrive together, and the fox may have panicked in the face of such a big number."They can be quite tenacious when they are in a pack".You can say that again, pal. Bizarrely, this isn't the first time hens have got the better of a fox. Back in 2012, a cockerel called Dude and three female chickens managed to knock a table onto a fox and then peck it to death.
Owner Michelle Cordell said: "I've never heard of anything like this before. It's like the revenge of the chicken."The little table in the corner of the coop which the chickens perch on had been kicked over and was lying next to the fox's head."It seems they kicked over the table, knocked the fox out then pecked it to death. The fox had little blood marks on its legs where it was pecked. It was not a cub, but it was only young, and Dude and Izzy are big birds. I reared Dude from a tiny little chick, and he has become very protective of the others. He thinks he is human and chases our dogs around the garden, pecking them."I think we all need to prepare for the chicken war, guys.
