The victims of the second mass shooting to take place in the US on a single day have been pictured following their tragic deaths. On Saturday nine people lost their lives in Dayton, Ohio after Connor Betts began firing on crowds outside a popular bar. Roughly a minute later police officers shot and killed the 24-year-old. The surveillance video was revealed as new details emerged on Sunday about Betts's troubled past in high school, which included getting kicked out for making a 'hit list' of girls he wanted to kill. In the video, police point to a map of the city which indicates that Betts began shooting inside an alley off of Fifth Street. It was in this alley that he killed his first victim, according to police.
Authorities say Betts then moved toward Fifth Street, where he killed the other eight people. Police say Betts was shot dead by officers at the entrance to the Ned Peppers bar on Fifth Street. Police fatally shot Betts, who was wearing a mask, bulletproof vest, and hearing protection, within 30 seconds from the start of his rampage. Chris Baker, the former principal of Bellbrook High School, said that when Betts was a student, he was suspended for writing a 'hit list' of girls he wanted to kill on a bathroom wall. Below are the victims that were named on Sunday afternoon.
Alongside the gunman was his sister Megan, who was due to start her senior year at Wright State University's Department of Biological Sciences before her brother killed her. She had also worked at the Missoula Smokejumper Visitor Center in Missoula. The pair are the only two children of Stephen and Moira Betts of Bellbrook, Ohio, around 15 miles from downtown Dayton.
Also among the dead was Lois Oglesby, a 27-year-old mother of two. Her close friend Derasha Merrett heard about the tragic death at 3am on Sunday morning when a friend called and said: "Lois got shot and she's dead."The nursing student had just returned to her day job at a nursery from maternity leave when she lost her life. She was a wonderful mother, a wonderful person," Derasha said."I have cried so much, I can’t cry anymore.”
