Instead of Barbie or Ken, here’s a third option to consider offering your kids. Mattel is introducing its first line of gender-neutral dolls, which skip breasts and broad shoulders, and instead, take a more customizable route.
The Creatable World dolls, available in several different skin tones, come with different hairstyles, different clothing options and different accessories, from long hair wigs and skirts too short hair wigs and hats.“Toys are a reflection of culture and as the world continues to celebrate the positive impact of inclusivity, we felt it was time to create a doll line free of labels,” said the company’s Senior Vice President Kim Culmone in a statement. The dolls are intended for all kids and all families, and Culmone explained they came to develop this product after speaking with physicians, parents, experts and kids.“Through research, we heard that kids don’t want their toys dictated by gender norms,” said Culmone. “This line allows all kids to express themselves freely, which is why it resonates so strongly with them.”Each $30 kit comes with one doll, two wig options and a variety of clothing and accessories, and is available to purchase at any major retailer.
