Primary school bans 'floss dance' due to its association with 'violent' video game Fortnite.

What got banned at your primary school when you were a kid? For us, it was Pogs and Pokemon cards. Those are both understandable, as one game involved throwing a really hard plastic disc and, let's be honest, no one wants to see a kid get beaten up for their shiny Venusaur.
Despite all that, we can't recall a dance ever being banned, yet that's what the kids of a primary school in Devon are being forced to live through. You're probably more than aware of the 'floss dance' by now as it's as infectious as 'It's coming home' memes. Here is a gif as a visual aide. The popularity of the dance isn't due to a Step-Up movie or a runner-up on Britain's Got Talent, but actually the free online video game Fortnite Battle Royale. The game is basically a huge battle royale involving 100 players in an ever-shrinking safe zone where the last one standing is the victor. It's a fun, easy and free game to play and has become the gaming hit of 2018, appealing to all ages. Furthermore, you can do celebration dances and one of those is the floss dance. However, due to the violent nature of the game and not wishing to promote the addictive nature of video games, Ilfracombe Primary School in Devon have opted to ban the dance. Headteacher Catherine Cox is quoted as saying: We want our school to be one in which human beings treat each other with kindness and appreciation. Fortnite is for 12 years plus. Fortnite is about the mass killing of other human beings and being awarded by a dance of celebration if you are successful. One of these dances is called the Nazi dance!. Fortnite is extremely addictive and playing violent games is associated with real-life aggressive behaviour and mental health issues. Children in our school have been using these dances to surround and intimidate other children. Parents of children at the school have voiced their disapproval of this policy saying that some of the kids enjoy the dance and that others haven't even heard of Fortnite. This isn't the first time that Fortnite has been in the news for the wrong reasons recently. Over the weekend it was revealed that children could be exposed to scams on the game which could endanger their families.
