Children are a burden on their mothers throughout their lives: 'Muuuuuuum can you help me wipe my arse/do my homework/hide the evidence? 'Indeed, children are quite literally a pain from the very first moments they are heaved into this world. Normally, a mother only has to suffer the agony of childbirth once per child, but a mum in Wales has gone through it all again this time to give birth to her daughter's daughter. Tracey Smith, 31, from Lampeter, feared she may never give birth to a child of her own after she was found to be missing her reproductive organs when she was 15 years old, has not started her period. Her mum Emma Miles, 55, had always said she would do whatever she could to help her daughter have a baby, and nine weeks ago she proved she really meant it by giving birth to her granddaughter, 7lb 7oz Evie. Emma had to shed six stone and take hormone tablets in order to prepare herself for the pregnancy, whereby one of Tracey's eggs - fertilised using IVF - was placed in her womb. Against the odds, the treatment was successful for the first time of asking. Tracey said it was only after getting engaged to her husband Adam that she considered taking up her mum's offer to help her have a baby. She said: "When I was diagnosed it tipped my world upside down. I was heartbroken at the idea that I wouldn't carry my own child. I'd always known that I wanted to be a mum, even at 15." Straight after my diagnosis, Mum made an offer to do what she could to help. I knew that she meant one day she'd carry my child for me. Over the years she mentioned it in passing but we never really made a firm plan."It was only after I met Adam and we got engaged in 2016 that he broached the subject of children."I remembered Mum's promise to me. So the next time we met up I asked her if she'd been serious about carrying our baby. I was delighted when she replied: 'Of course I was.' She had just been waiting for me to ask."Initially, Tracey and her husband Adam considered using a surrogacy agency, but laws in the UK dictate that surrogate mothers are given parental rights from birth, so they deemed it safer to keep the baby in the house, as it were. Tracey and Adam are now going through the legal process of adopting Evie, and Emma said she would go through it all again if they'd like the youngster to have a sibling. She said: "Despite my age, I wasn't worried about giving birth at all. All of my focus has been about doing this special thing for my daughter."Tracey is my baby and I did it all for her to be a mother."Now I'm glad to be back to work and getting back to normal. But I have offered to do it all again if they ever want a little brother or sister for Evie."Now that right there is a lovely tale. It should certainly be a special Mother's Day in their family this year.
