Drinking piping hot tea or coffee could almost double the risk of developing cancer of the oesophagus, warns new research. Scalding water damages the lining of the mouth and throat which can fuel tumours, say, scientists. A study of more than 50,000 people found those who drank their cuppa at a temperature of 60 C (140 F) were 90% more likely to be struck down. This rose to 2.4 times among those who regularly drank it at 75 C (167F).

The EU has voted to end daylight savings in two years.
MEPs have voted to scrap the practice of moving clocks forward by an hour in spring then back again in the autumn. From April 2021, member states will have a choice with regards to the time system they'll adapt. Essentially, the proposal states that these time changes should be abolished in 2021 and it is up to the member states to choose between winter or summer time zones they can keep the current summertime system or scrap the twice-yearly clock changes.

Australia's new law bans anyone with domestic violence charges from entering the country.
The law came into effect late last month on February 28 and stops anyone with a domestic violence charge against a spouse or a child from moving to Australia. The ban applies to everyone regardless of where they are coming from, where the crime was committed or what sentence they were given at the time that they were charged.
