A British family roast stalwart, the OXO cube's iconic appearance is known in kitchens up and down the country. But it turns out that those little foil cuboids have been hiding a handy secret.

Wrapped up tightly in red and silver, the cube is commonly unwrapped before use. Then, home chefs will be familiar with the crumbling of the cube into a pan, bowl or jug to stir into boiling water. Being left with beefy-smelling fingers has long been an occupational hazard of the Sunday roast, but it turns out the manufacturer never intended it that way, as one popular life hack is showing. Ken Mayor wrote: "I didn't know that either and yes I have probably used hundreds of them over the years."Angela Gibson added: "Well can't believe it. I'm gobsmacked just tried it and it really works. I will never get OXO all over my fingers again."
