The unusual pink lakes next to each other located near the town of Alekseevka in Samara makes local people surprised by this strange phenomenon. The pink colour of the water in the lakes is so clear that it can be seen from the satellite images. Industrial waste is thought to be the cause of abnormal changes in watercolour. Local people blame the nearby industrial plants for making the lake water pink. However, investigators have failed to find a solution and there have been no official conclusions about this phenomenon so far. According to ecologist Sergey Simak, the special colour of the lakes may be due to the deposition of underlying rocks or the growth of algae. Russia is not the first country in the world to witness the phenomenon of pink water. Melbourne officials also warned residents not to soak in Westgate Park in the city after the lake water turns from blue to pink due to excess salt.
